根據中國煤炭科工集團重組改制的整體要求，煤炭科學技術研究院有限公司（簡稱煤科院）于2014年5月16日正式掛牌成立。

煤科院是由煤炭科學研究總院（簡稱煤科總院）除位于朝陽區的劃撥土地及房產外的全部經營性資產、專利成果、業務、資質和人員組建的公司制企業。煤科院將傳承煤科總院50多年的歷史、品牌和文化，承載一代代煤科人推動煤炭科技進步的使命和夢想，站在新的歷史起點開啟新的航程。

煤科院總資產約25億元，凈資產14億元，員工1200余人。擁有包括中國工程院院士、國家級有突出貢獻專家、享受國務院政府津貼專家和大批博士在內的一流研發團隊。

煤科院下設6個研究分院：煤化工分院、節能分院、檢測分院、礦用油品分院、安全分院、裝備分院，1個分公司：北京分公司，2個控股子公司：浙江煤科清潔能源有限公司和內蒙古阿拉善盟科興炭業有限公司，以及多個參股公司。

煤科院具有化學工程與技術、礦業工程、安全工程與技術等一級學科的碩士、博士學位研究生招生培養資格。擁有2個國家工程技術研究中心，2個國家和3個行業質檢中心，4個國家重點實驗室，20多個大型實驗室。

煤科院主要從事煤炭轉化與加工利用、環境保護與節能工程、煤礦安全技術與裝備、礦用產品檢測檢驗、礦用油品、煤礦自動化與信息化等技術的研發和推廣應用。

China Coal Research Institute was founded on May 16th 2014 according to the reorganization     and reconstruction requirement of China Coal Technology & Engineering Group.

It is founded with all the operating assets, patent achievements, business, qualifications and personnel except the land and buildings at Chaoyang district of former China Coal Research Institute.

Its total assets are about 2.5 billion RMB and net assets are 1.4 billion RMB. It has over 1200 staff members and a first-class R&D team including academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, experts with national outstanding contribution, experts with government allowance and a large number of doctors.

China Coal Research Institute has 6 branches including Beijing Research Institute of Coal Chemistry, Energy Conservation Engineering Research Institute, Test Branch, Mine oil Products Research Institute, Mine Safety Technology Branch and Mine Safety Equipment Branch. It also has a subsidiary which is Beijing Branch of China Coal Research Institute and 2 holding companies which are Zhejiang Meike Clean Energy Company and Inner Mongolia Alashan Kexing Carbon Industry Company as well as many joint stock companies.

China Coal Research Institute has the postgraduate and doctor recruitment and educating qualification of fist level discipline including coal chemistry engineering and technology, Mine engineering, safety engineering and technology etc. It has 2 National Engineering Technology Research Centers, 2 National and 3 Industrial Quality Supervision Inspection and Test Centers, as well as 4 National Key Labs and over 20 large scale laboratories.

The main businesses of China Coal Research Institute are coal conversion, processing and utilization of coal, environment protection, energy conservation engineering, coal mine safety technology and equipment, mining products inspection and test,  mine oil products, mine automation and information etc. technology R & D and promoting application.
